Brief Information
To establish the Bishop Music Prizes, which support the study of musical composition at the university, the late Mr. Charles John Bishop left money in his will to the University of Auckland.
Regulations for New Zealand Scholarship:
In essence, one Junior Prize of $1,000 will be awarded annually to the student who received the highest grade in MUS 111 and who plans to continue studying composition in the year after the award. Therefore, one Senior Prize of $1,000 will be given annually to the student who received the highest grade in MUS 211 or MUS 311 and who intends to continue studying composition in the year after the award. A student is also qualified to receive the Senior Prize after winning the Junior Prize. The Prizes will therefore be awarded based on the counsel of the dean of the school of music by the University of Auckland Council.
